Photo & Screenshot Redactor
Permanently censor, blur, pixelate, or blackout sensitive details, bank cards, names, and faces on images and clipboard captures. Irreversible raster flattening with zero server uploads.
ID Cards & Licences
Black out National Insurance numbers, driving licence IDs, signatures, and dates of birth before sharing identity verification proofs.
Workplace Screenshots
Paste clipboard snippets directly with Ctrl+V. Blur customer emails, internal API tokens, and confidential metrics before posting to Slack or bug tickets.
Receipts & Bank Statements
Censor account numbers, sort codes, and purchase history on expense claims and tax receipts without altering invoice totals.
Faces & Number Plates
Pixelate bystander faces and car registration plates in photos before posting to classified marketplaces or social media.
π How to Redact Photos & Screenshots
-
1
Load or Paste Your Image Drag and drop any photo into the upload box or press Ctrl+V to paste a screenshot taken with Snipping Tool.
-
2
Choose Your Censor Method Select Blackout Box for maximum security, Blur for subtle aesthetic obscuring, or Pixelate for newsprint-style mosaic.
-
3
Drag Over Confidential Details Click and drag your mouse or finger across names, card numbers, or faces. Use Freehand Brush to trace over signatures.
-

Destructive In-Memory Buffer Overwriting
Unlike graphic editors that maintain non-destructive layer hierarchies (where deleted content can be unhidden by editing the file vector tree), BWTools mutates the HTML5 2D Canvas context directly. Redactions write directly to the underlying ImageData.data RGBA array, permanently overwriting the original bit values with mathematical zero or sampled averages.
Dual-Pass Mosaic Quantization
Pixelation is executed via dual-pass spatial downscaling: the selected sub-rectangle is mapped to a temporary offscreen canvas at a 1/12th scale factor with imageSmoothingEnabled = false, then immediately repainted back into the primary context. This collapses high-frequency text contours into uniform block averages that cannot be reconstructed.
β Frequently Asked Questions
Can someone reverse or undo the blackout box after I export the image? βΌ
Impossible. When you download or copy the image, the underlying pixels are physically replaced with solid black (#000000). There are no layers, no undo history, and no raw image data preserved in the exported file.
Can I paste directly from the Windows Snipping Tool? βΌ
Yes! Simply take your screenshot with Win + Shift + S, then click anywhere on this page and press Ctrl + V. The screenshot loads instantly without saving any temporary file to disk.
Does this tool remove GPS geotags and camera EXIF data? βΌ
Yes. Because the image is re-rasterized through an HTML5 Canvas, all EXIF metadata packets (including GPS coordinates, device serial numbers, and camera timestamps) are automatically stripped on export.
Are my images uploaded to any remote server? βΌ
Never. Like all BWTools utilities, the Photo & Screenshot Redactor executes 100% locally in your web browser. No photos, pixels, or clipboard data ever leave your computer.
